Play
Therapy
According to the Association for Play Therapy, play therapy is defined as “the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained Play Therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development.” In play therapy, there is no expectation that the child has to talk about their thoughts or feelings. In play therapy, the play is the communication! In the world of play therapy, there are many different models or theories of play therapy that a therapist may utilize.

EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence based trauma treatment. EMDR uses eye movements and other forms of stimulation to activate the brain’s ability to resolve these concerns. It is based on the belief that all humans have an inherent adaptive drive toward physical and emotional health. EMDR can be helpful for children, teens and adults!
Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is an evidence-based trauma treatment for children, adolescents, and their parents (or other caregivers) overcome trauma-related difficulties, including child maltreatment. TF-CBT helps children address distorted or upsetting beliefs and attributions and learn skills to help them cope with ordinary life stressors. It also helps parents who were not abusive to cope effectively with their own emotional distress and develop skills that support their children.
